This page is intended to guide the user through the replacement of the standard components considered to be field replaceable in the F2 FasCard reader.

On this Page


Disconnect any electrical device from power before performing any work on the device. It is recommended that the instructions contained herein be performed by individuals who are qualified to perform these tasks. Card Concepts Inc. takes no responsibility for the accuracy of this document or any damage that may occur to target equipment. Technical Support recommends using all appropriate safety equipment (such as hand and eye protection) during execution of the instructions below.

Instructions

Step 1 - Remove F2 FasCard Reader from Mounting

  1. Locate and remove the C-5416 security screws underneath the FasCard reader as shown in Fig. 1a.
  2. Gently pull bottom of reader forward until it clears the bottom of the C-5414 mounting bracket as shown in Fig. 1b.
  3. Lift top of reader clear of the C-5414 mounting bracket.
  4. Disconnect harnesses from all connection points (Fig. 1c).

Step 2 - Disconnect Display Housing from Main Housing

  1. Disconnect the magstripe reader from the control board, as indicated in Fig. 2a below.
  2. Identify and remove the four phillips screws indicated in Fig. 2b below.
    1. Set screws aside to attach replacement display housing.
  3. Gently lift the display housing (with control board attached) from the main reader housing (Fig. 2c).

Step 3 - Disconnect Display Housing from Control Board

  1. Disconnect the display cable indicated in Fig. 3a.
    1. To disconnect this cable, gently slide the black portion of the connector toward the edge of the control board. Once this is done, the cable should slide out with no resistance.
  2. Disconnect the interface cable indicated in Fig. 3b.
    1. To disconnect this cable, gently life up on the "T" portion of the connector. Once this is done, the cable should slide out with no resistance.
  3. The display housing is connected to a the control board with a small plastic clip, highlighted in Fig. 3c.
  4. Using gentle pressure, lift the bottom edge of the circuit board free of the corner pegs indicated in Fig. 3d.
    1. At this point the remaining edges should be easily separated from the remaining corner pegs.
    2. Technical Support recommends setting the control board on a static resistant surface.
  5. Fig. 3e shows the separated components.

Step 4 - Mount Control Board on Replacement Display Housing

  1. Place the mounting hole indicated in Fig. 4a over the mounting clip highlighted in Fig. 4b.
  2. Gently maneuver the control board into a locked position with the four corner posts.
  3. Connect the display cable into the slot indicated on Fig. 4c.
    1. Hold cable in place while sliding black portion of connector toward the lighter portion of the connector to lock cable into place.
  4. Connect the interface cable into the slot indicated on Fig. 4d.
    1. Hold cable in place while gently pressing down on the "T" portion of the connector to lock cable into place.

Step 5 - Connect Display Housing to Main Housing

  1. Slide main housing onto display housing and remount with screws from Step 2, as shown in Fig. 5a.
  2. Reconnect magnetic strip reader as shown in Fig. 5b.
  3. Remount reader on machine - refer to F2 FasCard and FLEX Reader Mounting Guide as needed.

Step 1 - Remove F2 FasCard Reader from Mounting

  1. Locate and remove the C-5416 security screws underneath the FasCard reader as shown in Fig. 1a.
  2. Gently pull bottom of reader forward until it clears the bottom of the C-5414 mounting bracket as shown in Fig. 1b.
  3. Lift top of reader clear of the C-5414 mounting bracket.
  4. Disconnect harnesses from all connection points (Fig. 1c).

Step 2 - Disconnect Display Housing from Main Housing

  1. Disconnect the magnetic stripe reader harness from the control board, as indicated in Fig. 2a below.
  2. Identify and remove the four phillips screws indicated in Fig. 2b below.
    1. Set screws aside to attach replacement display housing.
  3. Gently lift the display housing (with control board attached) from the main reader housing (Fig. 2c).

Step 3 - Disconnect Magnetic Stripe Reader from Main Housing

  1. Locate the C-5430-SA magnetic stripe reader assembly in the main housing (Fig. 3a).
  2. With gentle pressure, lift the leading edge (opposite of the clips highlighted in Fig. 3b) clear of the mounting groove.
  3. Magnetic stripe reader may now be lifted up and away from the clips that were indicated in Fig. 3a - example in Fig. 3c.

Step 4 - Connect Replacement Magnetic Stripe Reader to Main Housing

  1. Reverse Step 3 to connect the C-5430-SA replacement magnetic stripe reader assembly to the main housing.
  2. The plastic housing has some flex and should lock together with gentle pressure if the reader housing is properly aligned.

Step 5 - Connect Display Housing to Main Housing

  1. Slide main housing onto display housing and remount with screws from Step 2, as shown in Fig. 5a.
  2. Reconnect magnetic stripe reader as shown in Fig. 5b.
  3. Remount reader on machine - refer to F2 FasCard and FLEX Reader Mounting Guide as needed.
